"Wake up, just wake up!"
The nightmare you were in fades as you open your eyes. You're still uneasy from it, sweating, and disoriented when you finally sit upright. Vague images of otherworldly things linger in the back of your mind. Around you it's dark. Still nighttime, but surely near to morning? You reach for the bedside lamp, a bottle of water, a pair of glasses; whatever you normally grab during your wakefulness but it's not there. After fumbling for a moment, your vision adjusts to the shadows and you realize something is misplaced.
Then it clicks. A realization. A simple thought.
"I am not in my bed anymore. I am the one who's been misplaced."
The air is somehow different, heavier, and the smell of something wild and unknown permeates the space.
Wait. Dreams don't smell.
Is this a dream? It has to be, one doesn't wake up a different place than they fell asleep, right? Then you hear gentle laughter in the distance and a flash of fear jumps down your spine. Someone or something else is present in the room with you.
"Who is there?!" a voice calls out.
Do you hide? Do you fight? Do you try to talk to them? What do you do when you wake up in a dream?
